Religious Education

Welcome to the Religious Education program at St. Michael’s Parish. This program is designed for families of children attending public schools from Kindergarten through eighth grade. Your enthusiasm for sowing the seeds of faith in your family, whether at Mass, classes, lessons, traditions and policies will speak volumes to your children as they mature in their faith! We hope that our enthusiasm for faith formation is contagious and that you will always feel welcome in our office and program.

There's still time to register! Please fill out and turn in your registration form.

First Reconciliation & First Communion Classes

First Reconciliation and Communion are part of a two-year program. Normally, children begin their preparation in first grade and continue on to second grade where they are prepared for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (held in February) and for the Sacrament of Eucharist (celebrated in May).

Class and Mass Attendance

Class and Mass attendance are very important for the children during this formation year. This should be the top priority on the list of things "To Do." We do not want to children to be short changed when it comes to this preparation.

First Reconciliation, 2018

The date for First Reconciliation is Saturday February 10 for Religious Ed students and February 17 for St. Michael’s School students. Both reconciliation services will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the church. Parents are to accompany their child but are invited to receive the Sacrament at a separate time.

In preparation for the big day, children will be tested comfortably in class on the following prayers: Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and the Act of Contrition. Please pray with your child every night.

Religious Ed. students will receive take-home Reconciliation books at one of our parent meetings. These books are due to their Religious Ed. Catechist upon returning from Christmas vacation, January 9 and 10. Please work through the book with your child making sure there is an understanding of God’s mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

Older children with no faith formation background are placed in their regular school grade for the first year of RE. The second year, they are placed in their grade level class and the Special Sacrament class.

First Holy Communion, 2018

Saturday, May 5: 10:00 a.m. Mass

This Mass is especially for our First Eucharist children. It is a little longer, as many more children choose to attend this Mass. This Mass does not complete one’s obligation for Sunday Mass and the children can return the next day for their “second” Communion.

Please note: Do not select this Mass if attendance at the practice on Thursday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. is not possible. This practice is required for one parent and the Communicant. Practice will last about one hour.

Saturday, May 5: 5:30 p.m. Mass

This Mass is the Vigil Mass for Sunday, May 6. Children will be receiving First Eucharist at each of these Masses. Numbers are limited and requests will be filled on a first come, first served system.

Please note: If you select this Mass, one parent and the Communicant must attend the practice on Thursday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. in the church. Practice will last about one hour.

Sunday, May 6: 9:00 and 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Masses

Children will be receiving First Eucharist at each of these Masses. Numbers are limited and requests will be filled on a first come, first served system.

Please note: If you select this Mass, one parent and the Communicant must attend the practice on Tuesday, May 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the church. Practice will last about one hour.
