Corporal Works of Mercy

Corporal Works of Mercy (CWM)

What is CWM?

The Corporal Works of Mercy are acts of charity that respond to the physical needs of others. These works are rooted in the teachings of Jesus, particularly in the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 25:31-46), where Christ calls His followers to serve those in need. The seven Corporal Works of Mercy are:

  1. Feeding the hungry: Providing food to those who are without.
  2. Giving drink to the thirsty: Offering water and other beverages to those who lack access.
  3. Clothing the naked: Donating clothing to those who are without proper attire.
  4. Sheltering the homeless: Providing shelter or assistance to those without a home.
  5. Visiting the sick: Offering companionship and care to those who are ill.
  6. Visiting the imprisoned: Offering support and compassion to those who are incarcerated.
  7. Burying the dead: Ensuring that those who have passed away are treated with dignity through proper burial. Click here for more information on Funerals.

These acts emphasize the importance of responding to the physical needs of others as an essential part of living out the Christian faith. They encourage believers to look beyond themselves and to see Christ in the face of those who suffer, thereby fostering a spirit of compassion and service in the community.
