OCIA

Order of Christian Initiation for Adults

The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is a process by which the community initiates into its midst unbaptized adults, baptized adults from another faith denomination seeking communion with the Catholic Church, and those preparing for full initiation through the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. This process prepares them to receive the Sacraments, and to live the Catholic life of faith. Attendance at class does not obligate you to join the Catholic faith.

Order of Christian Initiation for Adults adapted for Children

Unbaptized children 7 years old and older are baptized at the Easter Vigil Mass following preparation through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults adapted for Children (OCIA/C).

What To Expect

The sessions are informal and include: prayer, presentation, questions & answers, and a break. A specific topic is presented each evening covering a facet of the Catholic faith. The Parish Priests and members of the OCIA team present each session.

Special Rites at several Sunday Masses introduce participants to the Parish community and offer a time of blessing for the candidates and catechumens. These are held on five specific Sundays, scheduled in advance.

The Sacraments are celebrated during the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday night. The vigil is followed by a light buffet & reception for all those received into the Church and their families.

When & where does it meet?

Weekly sessions to prepare Catechumens and Candidates for the reception of the Sacraments will be held in the Parish Center. Sponsors are needed to support and encourage each person. Dates to be announced.

How often does it meet?

The sessions for 2024-2025 will be held Thursdays beginning September 26 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Parish Center. Class dates are continuous every Thursday except Thanksgiving & Christmas vacations. You may register when you come to class or fill out a registration form and bring it with you or mail to the Parish.
